Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion’s future with the team is unclear after he was arrested Tuesday night. According to police he was in possession of marijuana, hundreds of thousands of dollars and gun.

Police in Starke, Florida issued a news release to Action 2 News Wednesday afternoon.

At about 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, Starke police stopped a truck for failing to stay in its lane. An officer said he could smell a strong odor of marijuana, and additional officers were called to the scene and searched the vehicle.

After police located a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, Guion became “extremely uncooperative and hostile,” according to the police report.

Officers say Guion rushed the driver’s side of the vehicle, trying to remove a black bag on the front passenger seat.

Police say they found two bags of marijuana, one weighing 190 grams and another weighing 167 grams, inside the black bag. They also found $190,000 in cash.

Letroy Guion Drugs and Money seized

Guion was taken into custody and booked into the Bradford County Jail where he later posted a $100,000 bond.

“The sad part to me is Mr. Guion being a person with a great opportunity in life and some talent and skills, to take this risk by possession, or utilizing that stuff with the bright future that is ahead of him that’s very sad,” said Starke Police Department Captain Barry Warren. “Knowing that one of our young men that came out of this local community has jeopardized that.”

The Packers organization released a statement but did not mention how the team plans to handle the situation.

“We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion. We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment,” said Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey.

Guion’s arrest comes after finishing his first season with the Packers. During the season, the former Viking set career highs for tackles and sacks and Mike McCarthy and defensive coaches raved about his performance.

Late this past season, Aaron Rodgers called Guion “one of my all-time favorite teammates.”

Guion was set to become a free agent but the Packers were already talking contracts with Guion’s agent near the end of the season. Now his future with the team is unclear.
