The film received a lot of attention starting in August, after photos surfaced on social media showing a mysterious clown carrying balloons in the streets of Green Bay. It scared many residents into calling police, who said the clown wasn’t doing anything illegal by being creepy.
A local actor spoke with Action 2 News a few days later to reveal that it was all just for a short film.
Krause says he did not expect his film to receive so much attention. He released the first set of pictures of Gags, thinking it would take a few months before anyone noticed.
“The amount of attention we received as been surreal,” he said. “It’s died down a lot, but still, I can’t believe how many people took notice.
“I just had a guy from Chicago who purchased seven tickets and is driving up for the premiere. For a short film!”
Gags the Clown himself will be creeping around the theater when the movie is played.
The movie is not rated, but Krause says if it was, it would be rated R for strong language. Anyone under 17 years old is asked to bring a parent or guardian.
