KING, Wis. (WBAY) – U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) is weighing in on reports of issues at veterans facilities in Wisconsin, including the King Veterans Home.
Last month, a number of state lawmakers raised concerns about allegations of substandard treatment and mismanagement of funds at the King Veterans Home.
A number of lawmakers have been calling for a federal investigation of the facility since it is partially funded through the federal government. However, Sen. Johnson says since it is a state facility, that’s where the investigation should begin.
“It’s a state facility, so let’s first have the state take a look at it,” he said. “I’m going to right now concentrate on the federal VA facilities, but listen, federal dollars are flowing in. That’s also a federal issue, but again, my jurisdiction is very broad in terms of anything the federal government puts its fingers on. It is again all about accountability and transparency, so we will continue to do those investigations.”
Gov. Walker has called for a review of the care at the home by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. He has said the veterans home has already been through a lot of testing and had no citations.
