Big changes now for Shawano Community Middle School: after five months of renovations, construction is finally finished on the building.
Originally built in 1954 as a high school, the school’s principal Action 2 News the school was in desperate need of some updates.
The $9 million renovation worked on things like installing an air conditioning system to the school and updating the heating system that was officials estimate should’ve been gone two decades ago.
Students and teachers say it’s more fun to start school in a new building. “The kids were so excited when they came back to school!” said Principal Mary Kramer.
“It was interesting, this being my third year in the building, I’ve seen them how they act, when it’s 85 degrees outside and there’s no air conditioning. This year was so smooth. The kids were comfortable and their environment supported that,” she added.
Music rooms, locker rooms and a court yard were all updated in the construction.
