St. Francis Xavier Cathedral holds mass honoring police

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay held a mass on Sunday to honor police officers and their families.

It was the second time the church held its “blue mass.” Church officials say it’s a way to show solidarity throughout the community and to offer support for anyone involved in public safety.

“Just a time to thank say thank you to God for their protection, also to let them know that we’re praying for them,” said Diocese of Green Bay Bishop David Ricken. “For their protection, to keep them safe from all the harm they have to subject themselves to in defending us and protecting us.”

While the mass was held at a catholic church, officials say anyone of faith is welcome to masses like this to support those who devote their lives to service.
