MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – Wisconsin Senate Democrats met Tuesday to discuss conditions at the King veterans home.
The Legislature’s Audit Committee plans to hold a hearing Wednesday to consider launching an audit on the home after reports of substandard care, medical errors and staffing shortages.
Senate Democrats say that audit could take months, so they’re urging the Republican majority to call an extraordinary session to approve funding the veterans home requested but was denied last year.
The money was requested to upgrade fire alarms and renovate rooms and floors.
In addition, some want lawmakers to approve an addition amount just over a million dollars to connect the home to the municipal water system after residents complained about brown water coming from wells.
