FOX CROSSING, (WBAY) – Birthday wishes are abundant today for Finley Volkman.
We first told you about the now three year old Fox Crossing boy and his battle against brain cancer last week. His mother put out a plea for her son to receive birthday cards to help make his day special. The response has exceeded expectations, especially on Sunday, Finley’s 3rd birthday.
Sunday is the day. Finley Volkman turns three and to help him celebrate, the biggest birthday card he’s ever seen was delivered on a Village of Fox Crossing Fire Department truck.
Lt. Chris Carrero with the fire department says, “For myself especially, cancer hits close to home, so I really wanted to come out and support it as well as my fellow firefighters.”
The fire truck entrance was a request from workers at Appvion Papers in Appleton and Boldt Contstruction.
“Anytime that you can do something like this, you should. And especially in this world where all things are happening, this is a good story so you want to do everything you can. It just warms your heart,” says Appvion employee Scott Wisner.
The two businesses, with encouragement from Boldt employee Clayton Sameulson, teamed up to create the card and collect a monetary donation for the family.
Clayton Sameulson says, “As long as he’s happy, that’s what we’re here for to make him happy, keep the community tight together and help out a little bit.”
And according to Finley’s mom, the outpouring of love and support is just what her boy needs. She says, “He’s been so busy that he hasn’t had time to be sick, so this actually does really help take his mind off of things. It’s great to see.”
Because as Stacy Volkman believes, this kindness shown for her son isn’t just about him adding, “It’s not only us receiving, but then other people getting joy out of it as well.”
Anyone wishing to send Finley a card can send it to: Finley Volkman, 939 Bonheur Court, Neenah, WI 54956.
