BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – Authorities in Brown County say they responded to eight crashes Wednesday evening along Interstate 41.
The crashes happened just before 5 p.m., causing I-41 to close for about an hour between Freedom Road and County Highway U. All but one of the crashes happened southbound on I-41.
Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Pawlak said the heavy rains appear to have caused one vehicle to go into a ditch. That’s when backups occurred, causing more crashes. Pawlak said the weather, as well as people driving too fast for the conditions, appear to be factors in the crashes.
Three people were taken to a hospital, although the Brown County Sheriff’s Office says there were no life-threatening injuries.
A Lawrence fire truck was involved in one of the crashes. It sustained minor damage.
All of the crashes are under investigation.
