SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) – A man carrying a clown mask and a concealed weapon was arrested late Wednesday in Sheboygan, the latest in a number of reports of suspicious activity involving people dressed as clowns.
At about 11:30 p.m., an officer witnessed a man wearing a clown mask running into an alley into the area of North 3rd and Erie Avenue. The officer located the 20 year-old man and found a clown mask in his possession. He was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
As Action 2 News reported earlier this week, police received reports of clowns in Vollrath Park, and one peeping in someone’s window.
Sheboygan Police say dressing as a clown is not illegal, but trespassing on property, harassing residents, posting threats on social media, or other illegal activity can end in a ticket or an arrest.
Clown-related threats have been reported across the country. In the Milwaukee area, a teenage girl was arrested for posting on social media that a person in a clown mask would carry out school shootings. Another girl was arrested for making clown threats by text message.
