Police locate driver they say hit child on bike and drove off

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Green Bay Police Department say they located the driver a car that hit a child on a bicycle and drove off.

At about 8 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the intersection of N. Military Ave. and Dousman St.

Police say a driver struck the child and left the area without stopping to see if the boy was OK.

The child was able to continue on to school where he was treated for minor injuries.

The driver is identified as a 30-year-old Green Bay man. Police say he’ll be charged with hit-and-run causing injury.

Police say video shows the child tried to cross the intersection while the light for northbound traffic had turned green. Also, it appears the driver’s vision might have been obscured by a school bus stopped next to it.

However, the driver made no attempt to stop and check on the child’s welfare, police say.

“The department would ask that parents take time to educate their children on how to be safe crossing intersections and ask that drivers be observant at intersections, especially at times of the day where children are going to and coming from school,” police say.
