GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – People are already getting on board for a nationally celebrated Spartan Race coming to Lambeau Field next year.
The obstacle course race is scheduled for June 24.
The race will be three-and-a-half miles long, using the stadium’s stairs, tunnels, locker rooms and the surrounding area, though not the field itself. Race organizers say their event won’t cause damage to Lambeau Field and will benefit the entire community.
“It brings a lot of money to the town. Typically we bring about $3.9 million in spending at hotels, restaurants, gas stations, et cetera,” Joe De Sena, Spartan Race CEO, told us by phone. “And people just go crazy. They want to be part of the community. It’s like a little vacation — an active vacation.”
Three thousand participants need to sign up before December 1 to make the event a reality.
Around 800 have already signed up and officials hope for about 8,000 participants in June.
