PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WBAY) – A Plymouth teacher who was celebrated by his students with a parade on Friday has passed away.

An obituary says Jeff Petrie died on Saturday, one day after students marched to his home chanting, “Petrie Strong.”

Petrie, a 5th grade teacher at Riverview Middle School, battled cancer. He couldn’t make it to homecoming festivities this year, so the school brought the parade to him.

They played his favorite song, and the entire student body marched up Mr. Petrie’s driveway and showed them how much they missed him.

“I see that they’re concerned, and I know that they care, and they’ve really shown what Plymouth is all about,” Petrie told Action 2 News on Friday.

“Unbelievable,” Petrie remarked. “They are just unbelievable people.”

The obituary says a scholarship fund is being set up in his name.
