Velp/I-41 interchange re-opens with new roundabouts

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Velp Avenue/I-41 interchange is re-opening to traffic after two months of construction.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation rebuilt the mile-long stretch between Riverview Dr and Melody Lane. There is a roundabout at each ramp terminal to I-41 and at the intersection of Velp and Memorial Drive.

The roundabouts are expected to ease the flow of traffic, but the DOT says drivers will have to get used to them.

“Anytime you have any, whether it’s a roundabout or a new signal, everyone has a little learning curve to understand what lane I’m supposed to be in,” said Eric Gwidt, I-41 Project Manager. “When you first drive in it, pay attention to the signs. Take your time. Don’t fly through there.”

The DOT says all major work on the I-41 Project in Brown County is wrapped up.

However, there will be some night closures through November as crews finish minor projects like the installation of new signs.
