GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Green Bay Packers are trying to make Lambeau Field’s parking lot party more permanent.

Wednesday the Packers unveiled plans for a permanent event structure on the east side of the stadium.

The new building has been dubbed the Johnsonville Tailgate Village and will replace the existing Tundra Tailgate Zone tent which has occupied that space since 2008.

“In the summer it’s nice because it’s air-conditioned. In the winter it’s nice because it’s heated. So it’s kind of the best of both worlds. If it’s a nice day out, people can go in and out of the area. I expect it will be extremely popular on game day,” Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy said.

When the green and gold is on the road, the space will be available to rent for private events.

The team says it will be ready to open in time for the 2017 season.
