ANTIGO, Wis. (WBAY) – A YouTube video being investigated in the disappearance of missing Antigo woman Kayla Berg is fake, police confirm.

“The Antigo Police with the help of another law enforcement agency has been able to identify that this video is 100% fake and was a video that was produced to be placed on youtube.com,” reads a post on the Antigo Police Department Facebook page.

Police stress the “Hi Walter, I got a new gf today” video has no connection to the disappearance of Kayla Berg. Berg disappeared after being dropped off in Wausau on Aug. 11, 2009. She was 15 at the time and would be 23-years-old today.

The video was posted on October 11, 2009, two months to the day after Kayla Berg was last seen. In the 58-second video, a man describes an encounter with his new girlfriend, then shows a woman who appears to be chained up in a locked room, crying and making muffled screams.

The video only recently became viral after internet sleuths claimed the girl in the video had a resemblance to Kayla.

People who identified themselves as friends of Kayla left comments on the video saying they were troubled by it.

On Tuesday, the original “Hi Walter” video was taken down by YouTube for “violating YouTube’s policy on harassment and bullying.”

Police did not identify the filmmaker or actors in the video.
