GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – While October marks national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Green Bay community are raising awareness for breast reconstruction.
It’s all part of the B.R.A.s on Broadway initiative, where 23 businesses in the Broadway district decorate and display bras in their shops. B.R.A.s stands for Breast Reconstruction Awareness.
All month patrons were invited to vote online for their favorite bra and Thursday night the winning bra was announced.
Event organizers say they hope the decorative brassieres are a fun way to draw attention to an important message.
“We want people to know that breast reconstruction is available, it is something that is covered by insurance companies, and really it’s just something that they should come and talk to a plastic surgeon and understand their options,” BayCare Clinic plastic surgeon Elizabeth O’Connor said.
A check for $8,510 raised through the B.R.A.s on Broadway was presented to the local Ribbon of Hope, which gives financial and emotional support to women in our area dealing with breast cancer.
