MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – Flags around the state will be lowered to half-staff twice in the next three days to honor a Korean War soldier, firefighters and a Wisconsin senator.
Flags will be lowered Saturday, Oct. 15, in a show of respect for Cpl. Donald Ray Hendrickson. He went missing in action during combat in Korea in 1950, when he was 19 years old. His remains were recovered and identified, and he’ll be interred in Janesville, according to the Department of Wisconsin Veterans of Foreign Wars.
This coincides with Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day on Saturday, when flags were being lowered to remember the firefighters in our state who died in the line of duty.
On Monday, Oct. 17, flags will be lowered again from sunrise to sunset for State Sen. Rick Gudex (R-Fond du Lac). The first-term senator was found dead Wednesday morning in the Town of Eden. A memorial service for Gudex is being held on Monday.
