ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) – A 19-year-old man is in custody for the murder of Harry and Lorraine Brown Bear in Oneida a month ago.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office says evidence they gathered during the investigation of the double murder led to Vance Reed’s arrest on a warrant for first-degree intentional homicide. Reed also lived in Oneida. He was taken into custody without incident early Friday afternoon.
Harry Brown Bear, 77, and his wife Lorraine, 67, were found dead in their home on Beechtree Lane on the Oneida reservation on September 14.
Police were called to check on the couple’s welfare after they hadn’t been seen during their normal routines. Investigators think they were dead for several days.
While the sheriff’s office won’t say what connected Reed to the crime, they said this wasn’t a random stranger attack.
“There were a number of persons of interest, obviously as in any investigation of this nature. It was fortunate that the evidence and the facts that we had came together rather quickly, and we were able to obtain enough evidence and information to secure an arrest warrant earlier this afternoon,” Undersheriff Michael Jobe said.
The district attorney could file formal charges as soon as Monday.
