Victim airlifted to hospital after collision with semi on Hwy 10

WAUPACA COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – One person was airlifted to a hospital and another was transported by ambulance following a crash involving an SUV and a semi on eastbound Highway 10 in Waupaca County Thursday morning.

The crash happened in the Township of Farmington, near Morgan Drive, at about 6:51 a.m.

Investigators say the SUV was driving east on the highway when a deer jumped in front of the vehicle.  The collision with the deer caused the hood to release and block the driver’s view.

The SUV slowed down, but the tractor trailer behind it did not have time to slow down. The semi swerved and hit the rear driver’s side of the SUV and overturned.

A female passenger in the SUV was trapped and had to be pulled from the vehicle. She was airlifted to a hospital in Neenah with critical, but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi was taken to a Waupaca hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV and another passenger were not hurt.

The tractor trailer was carrying scrap metal and dumped its contents on the road.

Eastbound Highway 10 was closed for several hours for clean up and investigation.
