GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) – The Fox River Mall will be open on Thanksgiving Day.
The mall’s general manager says stores in the mall will have the option to open at 6 p.m. on the holiday.
“After discussions with retailers and feedback from our shoppers, we’ve made it optional for mall retailers to open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving evening. Fox River Mall and many of our retailers will open on Thanksgiving Day to allow customers an early start on their holiday shopping,” reads a statement from Senior GM John Burgland.
The Bay Park Square Mall in Ashwaubenon will also be open on Thanksgiving Day, 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Some retailers and department stores have opted to stay closed this year after backlash from customers and employees. Critics claim retailers are putting profit margins ahead of the happiness of workers who want to spend time with family on the holiday.
The Mall of America is the most high profile location back off from Thanksgiving Day shopping. The mall says it be closed, but provide security staff in case some stores would like to open. MOA officials say they anticipate most stores will stay closed.
“We’re pleased to give this day back to our 15,000 employees and their families,” mall staff posted on Facebook.
Macy’s is going in the opposite direction. The department store chain announced it would open an hour earlier on Thanksgiving, allowing shoppers in at 5 p.m. until 2 a.m. before reopening on Black Friday.
