Kick-a-thon in Manitowoc raises record $4,000 for cancer patients

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) – Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do in Manitowoc raised a record $4,000 Saturday during its annual Kick-a-thon benefit for local breast cancer patients.

A group of 39 kickers did a total of 41,263 kicks. The center is still accepting donations early this week.

All of the proceeds go to Aurora Hospital’s Vince Lombardi Cancer Center to benefit local patients. The Tae Kwon Do center has held the event for four years as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

To raise the money, students performed kicks on padded targets. Last year, they donated $2,000.

“Like so many others, family members of our martial arts students have been affected by breast cancer,” said Nichole Cogswell, Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do assistant instructor and event organizer. “We are proud to help increase awareness and raise funds for much-needed research.”
