A Fox Valley connection to the Chicago Cubs

It’s an important time of the year for Kimberly football. It’s the playoffs. But assistant coach Ryan Hinske will be busy during the World Series. He’ll be watching out for his brother coaching in the Cubs dugout.

“It is kind of nerve-racking knowing that the Cubs are on the verge of doing something that they haven’t done in over 100 years,” said Ryan.

Ryan Hinske’s brother Eric is the Cubs assistant hitting coach. But this isn’t Eric’s first time in the World Series. Eric has won it twice as a player with the Red Sox in 2007 and Yankees in 2009. Making his hometown of Menasha proud.

“The whole city of Menasha has followed Eric really well and done some pretty cool things within the city,” said Ryan.

Menasha High School’s training facility is named after him. There’s also an old high school jersey and possibly a game worn Toronto Blue Jay’s jersey from Eric’s 2002 American League Rookie of the Year season in the school.

His senior picture is in Menasha’s 1995 yearbook.

Menasha senior baseball player Romnek chatted with Eric at his summer baseball game this past year.

“It’s pretty cool that where he came from and where he is now,” Romnek said. “It’s cool that I’m going to his school you know sort of following in his footsteps.
