OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) – The Oshkosh Common Council unanimously approved charging fees for large special events using park facilities or buying out boat launches.
The fees will be in effect from April 1 through October 31 each year, starting next year.
Event organizers will be assessed for each park shelter that can’t be rented because of the event. The daily fee is $55 per shelter on workdays and $65 on weekends.
It also assesses a fee for boat launches that can’t be reached. The buy-out fee is $500 per day, which will go into the city’s boat launch fund.
Parks Director Ray Maurer says the Advisory Parks Board discussing the fee two years ago after concerns from residents that they couldn’t rent or use park facilities during large events. The idea came up again during the 2016 budget process because of lost revenue from boat launches and park shelter rentals during large events.
Based on events held this year, Maurer estimates the city would raise $9,000 to $10,000 in fees.
