Candidates in Wisconsin’s sixth congressional district make pitches to students

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – The candidates vying for Wisconsin’s Sixth Congressional District seat reached out to student voters on Thursday.

Incumbent Republican Glenn Grothman, Democrat Sarah Lloyd and Independent Jeff Dahlke attended a voter education open house at the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Thursday afternoon.

“We have really major issues right now with college affordability, and in Congress, I will be an advocate for refinancing of student loans and also a debt-free option for college,” Lloyd said.

“We need to fix social security,” Dahlke said. “We need to make that funding available for everybody. We need to get back the $2.3 trillion that were stolen from that fund.”

“We’re paying people not to work and paying people not to get married, and I don’t think either one is a good decision,” Grothman said. “You know, we don’t want to penalize or take away $30,000 if you do get a job, so we need more work requirements.”
