GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Wisconsin lawmakers are joining together to work toward ending opioid drug overdoses in Wisconsin.

Members of Gov. Scott Walker’s new task force on opioid abuse had their first meeting Friday in Green Bay. The Drug Enforcement Agency and Wisconsin Department of Justice made presentations.

State Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) is a member of the task force. He addressed some of the group’s goals going forward.

“We know that access to treatment continues to be a problem, and whether that be a lack of treatment availability, lack of coverage for insurance, those are some of the things that we’re hoping to tackle to be able to address this issue even further in the future,” Nygren said.

Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and Attorney General Brad Schimel were also at the meeting.
