OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) – Former and possibly future First Daughter Chelsea Clinton spoke Wednesday at a Get Out the Vote rally at U.W.-Oshkosh.

Clinton campaigned for her mother, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, on Wednesday.

She told the crowd this isn’t an election between her mother and Donald Trump but this is an election about our kids and the country they’ll grow up in.

“If you think climate change is real, and a real threat, but also a real opportunity to make America the clean energy superpower of the 21st century, you have to support my mom. If you believe it’s a hoax created by the Chinese, which is what Donald Trump has said, then that leads you in a different direction.”

“I think on every issue that we care about, the contrast could not be more clear.”

She shared the story of an eight-year-old girl who told her that her mom has to win. The girl said it’s because she “wants a girl to win” but also because the boys at her school say if Donald Trump wins, her dad has to go back into the closet, “and there are monsters in there.”

When Clinton began taking questions, a man saying he’s a Vietnam veteran said the government kicked “all of the veterans out of the VA hospital and forced us to go onto Obamacare,” and he can’t afford Obamacare. Chelsea Clinton couldn’t answer his questions, saying she’s not aware of the VA system kicking out veterans and said the campaign would help him file a complaint. She said her mother has supported veterans’ causes and helped make reservists and National Guard members who serve overseas part of the VA system.

She says her mother has faced political attacks for at least 30 years. She recounted her first political memories started in 1986 when her father was running for governor of Arkansas but his opponent would attack her mother for “being in the pockets of the poor” and called her a terrible mother.

Chelsea Clinton will also campaign in Eau Claire on Wednesday. On Thursday, she’ll be in Milwaukee. Her campaign stops come less than one week before Election Day.

Her visit comes amid new scrutiny of Hillary Clinton, as the FBI announced it will look into new emails uncovered during a sexting investigation of disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of one of Hillary Clinton’s closest aides.

Chelsea Clinton has made multiple campaign stops in Wisconsin. She was in Green Bay last month. Her mother hasn’t been to Wisconsin since the April primary.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has made multiple campaign stops in Wisconsin since the April primary. He was in Green Bay earlier this month. The Trump campaign’s state director, Pete Meachum, released a statement in response to Chelsea Clinton’s visits: “Donald Trump represents the type of change we need. He’ll drain the swamp of corruption, repeal and replace Obamacare, and he will finally get our economy growing again. Next Tuesday, the Badger State will Make America Great Again.”

The Get Out the Vote event at UW-Oshkosh was sponsored by the non-partisan Oshkosh Student Association. It says no student funds were used to sponsor the event.
