GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – A former used car dealer involved in a federal fraud case appeared in court Wednesday after being arrested earlier this week for not appearing in court in Michigan for an unrelated case.

John Solberg, 34, is being held in the Brown County jail on charges he wrote a check for more than $500 that he didn’t have.

Authorities in Michigan want Solberg returned to the state so he can appear in court there.

An extradition hearing has been scheduled for later this month. Until then, Solberg was ordered held ona $2,000 cash bond.

Solberg is involved in a federal investigation into Standard Pre-owned, a used car dealership with locations in Kaukauna and Suamico. Investigators consider Solberg was a co-owner of that dealer.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at the dealership last spring that suggests Solberg would contact people trying to sell their cars on Craigslist and offer to sell it for them. But investigators say after the sale Solberg refused to pay owners or let owners have their car back.

Both dealership locations are now closed.
