Volunteers knit for Coats for Kids

Hooks and Needles knitting group

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) –  A local group of volunteers is giving to the community by knitting.

More than two dozen seniors who are part of the Hooks and Needles knitting group have worked thousands of hours to knit items to donate to the Coats for Kids campaign.

Organizers say they have close to 500 knitted items which will be donated to kids and adults.

“They’ve knit a variety of items, from afghans, lap robes, chemo hats, baby sweaters, sleepers,” volunteer program assistant Jan Sommerfeld said.

The items knitted by the group are donated to people in need across Outagamie, Winnebago and Calumet counties.

Friday is the last day to donate a new or gently used coat for Coats for Kids. Click here for a list of drop-off sites.
