GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Sargento Foods teamed up with Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Ahman Green on Sunday to collect food donations before the game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Fans donated non-perishable food, as well as money, near the Tundra Tailgate Zone. They also got take pictures with Green and get autographs from him.
The team’s all-time leading rusher said he knows firsthand how important fighting hunger is in northeast Wisconsin.
“It brings awareness to a good cause and to help family’s out in need,” Green said. “It’s November, so Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so it’s one of the things I have on my list to do during this time of the year.”
The donations benefit two Wisconsin food charities: the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee and Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay.
Since the “Touchdowns for Charity” initiative began 14 years ago, Sargento Foods has contributed more than $1.1 million to Wisconsin charities for touchdowns scored in regular and postseason games.
“It’s just been a wonderful relationship with Paul’s Pantry and Hunger Task Force,” said Portia Young, Sargento Foods public relations manager. “Again after 14 seasons, glorious seasons with the Packers, win or lose, the community always wins because we’ve been able to donate $1.1 million to hunger relief.”
