FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – Two grocery stores in Fond du Lac is taking donations for a permanent memorial to Trooper Trevor Casper, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Pick ‘n Save stores on West Johnson Street and West Pioneer Road are taking $1 donations at the registers between Nov. 12 and Nov. 26.
The money goes toward a park bench with a plaque that will be dedicated to Trooper Casper, a Kiel native. Casper was on his first solo patrol on March 25, 2015 when he was killed in a shootout with a robbery suspect.
The Pick ‘n Save store on West Johnson Street is near the location where Casper died.
“There has been a growing interest for a permanent memorial at the site where a temporary memorial site is still receiving items,” says State Patrol Captain Tony Burrell of the Fond du Lac Post. “The Casper family is very appreciative and supportive of this fundraiser sponsored by Pick ‘n Save to create a memorial in Trevor’s honor.”
Volunteers from the State Patrol will help with bagging and carrying groceries out to vehicles in appreciation for support of the memorial.
