Thousands of kids to get warm coats Saturday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – On Friday, volunteers will unpack and sort through thousands of coats for the Coats for Kids distribution.

The volunteers will gather at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1315 Lime Kiln Rd, to take coats from the bags, put them on racks and get them ready for the kids to go shopping Saturday.

Nan Pahl, the Salvation Army’s director of Social Services, says they expect to distribute about 3,500 coats on Saturday.

The Coats for Kids distribution is for families who pre-registered, but will be a chance for families who missed the registration to get the leftover coats.

Pahl says those families can contact the social services office on Monday.

“Some of the coats that are remaining we do take over to our thrift store, and we will issue vouchers to families who are still in need of a coat,” Pahl says.

Volunteers are needed to shop with families Saturday–especially for the late shift, which is 2:15 p.m. – 5 p.m.
