FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – A group in Fond du Lac is showing police some support during a time nationally when police and community relations are strained.
Supporters held signs carrying simple messages but ones they feel officers don’t hear enough.
“Well, it’s hard to be a police officer with today’s crisis. That’s for sure,” said 11-year-old Noah Holzman of Fond du Lac.
Noah stood with more than a dozen others along Johnson Street on Saturday, hoping his message read loud.
“I’m here basically because I love law enforcement, and they’ve taught me a lot,” he said. “They’re not here to kill people. They’re here to protect us.”
Demonstrators wanted police to know that they’re loved. Their signs read, “We appreciate you,” and “May God keep you safe as you work to keep us safe.”
The words didn’t fall on deaf ears.
“Times are challenging, and anytime we can get some positive support, it’s great for everyone,” said Fond du Lac Police Lt. Tina Brown.
The people who held the signs said their efforts don’t end with this demonstration. They hope that other cities across America stand up to all the negativity and support the men and women in blue.
