Thousands of kids receive free coats through Salvation Army campaign

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Thousands of children received free coats on Saturday, thanks to the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids Campaign.

At least 3,200 coats were donated at various distribution sites from Sept. 12 through Nov. 4. WBAY-TV is proud to be a sponsor.

Upwards of 3,500 children received the coats Saturday during a distribution event at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

“We’ve used the program for multiple years,” said Sara Suprise, a mother of four. “Every time we do come, it’s very welcoming. It’s very comfortable. It’s a nice environment to come to.”

Registered families who were not able to attend the distribution event can still get a free coat. They need to call the Salvation Army of Brown County’s social services office to get a voucher that will be redeemed at the store.

Nan Pahl, director of social services at the Salvation Army of Brown County, said all their hard work is worth it when they see kids trying on their new coats.

“It’s so fun because the kids get to our check-out table in the back, and the first thing they want to do is put that new coat on before they even walk out the door,” Pahl said.
