TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WBAY) – Two adults and five children are displaced after a fire damaged their Two Rivers home.
The Two Rivers Fire Department said it received the call at 6:41 p.m. Friday to respond to the 2000 block of Jackson Street.
Someone called 911 to tell firefighters that they saw smoke coming out of a window and the front door of the home. When crews arrived, they put out the flames quickly in the living room area and searched the home, finding no one was inside at the time.
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to control the fire. They stayed on scene for about two hours to investigate a cause.
One cat and a ferret died from smoke inhalation. A firefighter was treated on scene for a cut to his finger.
A cat and dog were rescued.
The house has extensive smoke damage, moderate fire damage and standing water in the basement. The damage is estimated at $33,000.
The Red Cross is helping the family with temporary housing.
