MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) – Manitowoc police say a man who climbed to the top of a communications tower has been brought down safely after several hours of negotiations.
Police say they man started climbing the tower next to the downtown Manitowoc County joint dispatch center around 5:00 Wednesday night
The tower is about 150 feet high.
A tower rescue team from Appleton was called to help, but has stayed back because the man said he had a weapon.
Police say the man wasn’t a threat to the public.
Officers say they convinced the man to climb down about 2:00 a.m.
He was taken into protective custody and treated at a hospital for prolonged exposure to the cold.
