Identities released from fatal head-on crash in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – A young Waupun man has died and three people were seriously hurt in a head-on crash in southwestern Fond du Lac County.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and hit a westbound vehicle head on Monday evening on County Highway AW and Oak Grove Rd in the Town of Alto.

The passenger who was killed was in the westbound car, Brock Hoekstra, who was 23. He died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The driver of the westbound car, Debra Hoekstra, 52, and another passenger, Austin Burckhardt, 17, suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, 57-year-old James Jensen, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

All of the victims are from Waupun.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the man who died was not wearing a seat belt. Investigators do not know if the woman and the teen in the westbound vehicle were buckled in.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was wearing a seat belt, investigators say.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says alcohol was not a factor in this crash. They’re investigating why Jensen crossed the center line.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 5:46 p.m. Monday.
