Teen hunter shot in Oconto County

OCONTO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg by another youth hunter in Oconto County.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tells Action 2 News the boy will be OK.

The DNR says the shooting happened while the youngsters were loading their guns.

DNR officials did not give an exact location of the accident, only that it happened in Oconto County.

The shooting remains under investigation.

This is the first firearms-related accident in Northeast Wisconsin for the 2016 gun-deer season, and the 4th non-fatal hunting accident in the state, according to the DNR.

A 46-year-old Milwaukee hunter was found dead at a cabin in Dodge County this week. Investigators believe carbon monoxide or another environmental factor may have played a role in his death. His father was discovered to be seriously ill and taken from the cabin to a Madison hospital.

Jeff Alexander is working on a story on hunter safety this season and will have more information tonight on Action 2 News.
