Thousands take part in shopping on Thanksgiving

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) – While many gathered with friends and family Thursday for a Thanksgiving meal, others decided to get a head start on some holiday shopping.

It was the calm before the storm Thursday afternoon as people line up outside of stores for some early Black Friday shopping.

“I am waiting for the free gift cards,” said Miles Hegiy.

“Going to get a TV,” said Brandon Duy.

“Looking to find a new keyboard for my computer,” said Tony Koszalinski.

For some shoppers this was a last-minute decision.

“About five minutes and then I just decided to show up,” said Duy.

“We had a lot of time off. We are not doing Thanksgiving until Saturday so it gave us some time to shop,” said Kevin Lund

For others there was a little preparation that went into the big day.

“We already went to the other Shopko and picked up a $10 gift card. Then we are going to go over to Younkers to pick up another $10 gift card,” said Hegiy.

But it’s safe to say, the store employees have been preparing for Thanksgiving shopping for the past few weeks.

“This is going to be an exciting day. It’s going to be high energy and we are going to be running all over the place,” said a Best Buy employee.
