DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Well, this puts a new spin on “Black Friday.”

A power outage around 7:00 a.m. on Nov. 25, 2016 left NorthPark Mall in the dark as early-bird Black Friday shoppers were looking for deals.

KWQC’s Ashley Holden was already at the mall doing live reports on holiday shopping when the outage occurred and captured a photo of shoppers continuing to look for deals after the lights were off.

As of 7:20 a.m., MidAmerican Energy reported nearly 4,400 Davenport customers were without power, but the reason was not immediately available.

The problem was eventually traced to faulty equipment on a feeder line, the utility said.

Power was restored just before 8:30 a.m.

Drew Jay offered a more humorous explanation for the outage, posting on Facebook, “Clark Griswold plugged in his Christmas lights.”
