ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) – Some stores in our area are staying with the Black Friday tradition. Cabela’s in Ashwaubenon was closed on Thanksgiving and opened its doors at 5 Friday morning.

They had a line of nearly 1,000 people, which employees say is more than last year.

Many shoppers waited overnight and through the early morning hours for a chance to win prizes, including gift cards up to $100. Others wanted to be the first inside to scoop up doorbuster deals.

“Sometimes if you’re in the first 100 people, you walk in the door and you’ll see people running around the store. It’s pretty crazy,” Brady Backhaus, who came from West Bend, said.

“We came for these base layers and we were able to get what we all needed for the son and son-in-law. They’re both electricians and work outside and do outdoor activities,” Patti Willems from De Pere said.

Store workers expect some lulls in the action but believe they’ll have steady customers until the store closes at 10 p.m.
