CALEDONIA, Wis. (WBAY) – Authorities in Racine County say they arrested a drunk driver after he caused a crash that killed a father and his 9-year-old daughter.
WISN-TV reports the 25-year-old man was driving a pick-up truck Friday evening when he rear-ended a sedan occupied by Kevin and Emily Dalley. They did not survive.
“Another motorist saw it and called it in to dispatch,” said Caledonia Police Lt. Gary Larsen. “When our officers got there, they tried to render aid to the little girl and the father. Sadly, the little girl was already deceased on the scene.”
A 6-year-old girl was also in the sedan and suffered injuries. She was taken to a hospital. A family member told WISN-TV that she suffered minor injuries. One of her baby teeth was knocked out.
The accused drunk driver faces two homicide counts. Police say this is his second drunk driving offense.
Speed may have also been a factor in the crash.
The community is showing its support for the family of the victims. A fundraising page has already raised thousands of dollars. Care packages were also dropped off at the victims’ home.
“You don’t realize the lives that are lived, and when something so tragic like this happens, how we need each other for that,” said neighbor Ken Dahlin.
