GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – A special prosecutor suggests Green Bay’s mayor be punished with a $4,000 fine and ordered to serve 40 hours of community service for violating campaign fundraising regulations.

Schmitt was charged this fall with three misdemeanors.

Campaign finance records show the mayor accepted nearly $10,000 in illegal donations while running for re-election between 2011 and 2015.

An investigator says Schmitt accepted donations over the legal limit, then changed documents trying to get around it.

Schmitt has said any irregularities were not intentional but has agreed to a plea deal which would have no jail time.

Schmitt is scheduled to be sentenced on December 5.
