GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday — a day to get away from the commercialism of the holiday and celebrate the charitable spirit of the holiday season.
The Farmory in Green Bay was one of many non-profits encouraging people to donate to a worthy cause.
When it opens its doors next year, The Farmory will help grow food for hungry kids in need.
“There is food insecurity present, there are food deserts — we’re in a food desert right now — and so The Farmory is going to work to address those in the future so that all children all families will have access to healthy, nutritious food,” program director Alex Smith said.
The indoor farming operation will occupy the old armory in the Navarino neighborhood near downtown. It will provide job training while growing food year-round.
Right now 51 percent of Brown County households with children don’t have enough to eat.
