Manitowoc man accused of driving drunk, knocking down traffic lights

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) – Authorities say they arrested a 26-year-old Manitowoc man after he drove drunk, hitting several objects.

The Manitowoc Police Department says it received a call at 9:13 p.m. Thursday from a citizen who saw the driver hit a traffic light at the intersection of North Rapids Road and Broadway Street. The witness told police the crash caused the traffic light to fall into the roadway, blocking traffic.

Officers found the driver’s black truck at the intersection of South 15th and Marshall streets. They later found out the man also knocked down two other traffic lights in the median on North Rapids Road at Michigan Avenue.

Police also believe the man may have hit a vehicle, after officers found a Volkswagen emblem in the debris left behind. They’re asking anyone whose vehicle may have been struck to contact them at (920) 686-6551.

The man was arrested on suspicion of his first OWI. He was also issued a number of traffic citations.
