ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) – Marines were on a special mission in Ashwaubenon.

Marines made a list and checked it twice before they shopped for children’s gifts at Shopko at Bay Park Square Mall.

The presents they bought Thursday are for the Corps’ annual Toys for Tots program and will be distributed to families through Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin.

“I have a lot of siblings myself — I have four brothers and one sister younger than me — and I know for my mom, at least it was hard for her around Christmas, so to be able to do this it’s nice to give back and put a smile on a kid’s face, I mean, every child deserves at least a little Christmas, right?” Cpl. Erik Cedarquist said.

“It’s important for us that they feel that they’re part of something bigger, that they’re part of a community. Big Brothers/Big Sisters wants them to know that it’s our job to support them,” Big Brothers/Big Sisters Executive Director Katie Hess said.

Toys for Tots ends within two weeks. Find a list of drop-off locations and donation events at wbay.com/toys.
